Breast augmentation is an elective breast surgery procedure that increases the size or changes the shape of the breasts.
The surgery, known as mammoplasty, involves placing implants behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscles. Implants come in different styles and are filled with a saline or silicone solution.
In some cases, the patient’s own fat from other areas of the body is used to increase the size of the breasts. Most of the time, the choice of implant type and size is made by the patient with advice and guidance from a cosmetic surgeon.
